The basics of home care

With the multitude of skin care options on the market today, it can feel overwhelming trying to decide what is right for you. How many products do you have sitting in your bathroom right now that you bought with good intentions, but never use? We have all been there, myself included, but it doesn't have to stay that way.

There are 4 basic products you absolutely need in your home care arsenal . Lets chat about them below shall we?

A good cleanser is really important. It's purpose is to remove make-up, dead skin cells, oil, dirt, and other types of pollutants from your skin. This helps to unclog pores and prevent skin conditions such as acne. All of our favourite cleansers can be found here.

Exfoliating has many benefits for your skin. Not only does it remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin looking smoother, it also removes pollutants, dirt, debris and allows a fresh layer of skin cells to emerge. It is important to know that over exfoliating can actually do your skin more harm than good.

A general rule of thumb for how often to exfoliate based on your skin type is:

Dry/Dehydrated/Sensitive Skin: 1-2 times per week depending on your skins sensitivity.

Oily/Acneic Skin: A maximum of 3 times per week (every other day) will help combat your breakouts and oil build up. Over exfoliating an oily skin type can cause more breakouts and an increase of oil production, which we obviously want to avoid.

Mature Skin: Exfoliating 2-3 times per week will help promote cell turnover and will help prevent a sallow appearance over time.

Our recommended exfoliators can be found here.

Toner is a really important and often over-looked step in any good home care routine. It removes any last traces of dirt, grime and impurities stuck in your pores. When added to your daily skincare routine, it can have a wonderful impact on the appearance and tightness of your pores. Take a look here for all of our favourite toners.

A good moisturizer is a staple item in your skin care routine. Applying your moisturizer both in the morning and evening is most beneficial for your skin. When it comes to purchasing the best moisturizer, it isn't a one size fits all situation. There are many different moisturizers that help combat numerous skin care concerns. To learn what moisturizer is best for you, we suggest completing our FREE online skin care consultation here. To see all of our available moisturizers, head over to this page.

The steps above should be completed in both the morning and evening with the exception of your exfoliation, which we recommend for your evening skin care routine.

If you are looking to enhance your skin care even more, there are additional products you can incorporate into your daily routine that will take your skin care to the next level.  We will go over our favorites in another post, but for now make sure to complete your skin care consultation to learn the most effective products for your at home skin care routine.
